The Sanctuary Choir sings for the traditional service at 10:30am on Sundays from September through May. While rehearsal dates and times may vary, depending on the season, the Sanctuary Choir normally rehearses at 5:00pm on Tuesdays and 9:30am on Sundays. In June 2009, NCC welcomed a new Organist/Music Director. James Brian Smith provides remarkable leadership and musicianship. Every Sunday you will find church members staying after worship to enjoy James' organ postludes fit for a cathedral.
The Sanctuary Choir is outstanding in its own right and possesses a wide repertoire. They join, on ocassion, with other church and community choirs, most notably for the annual presentation of Handel's "Messiah" at the Monumental Baptist Church on Chicago's south side. The Sanctuary Choir joins with a similar choir from neighboring Lutheran Church of the Ascension on two occasions during the year, Thanksgiving Day services at the Northfield Community Church and Good Friday services at the Lutheran Church.
