This benevolence is called the St. Peter Legacy in Mission Fund and was created by the congregation of St. Peter Community Church before they merged with Northfield Community Church. St. Peter was founded in 1845 by German settlers and is considered to be one of the oldest churches in northern Illinois. Throughout its history it has had many name changes and has had houses of worship in three locations in the township of Northfield, Illinois. In 2011 the church property at 2700 Willow Road in Northbrook was sold and subsequently the congregation merged with Northfield Community Church in 2016.
St. Peter members decided proceeds from the sale of the church property should be used to perpetuate the memory of, and provide a legacy for, St. Peter Church. Each year a portion of the fund is equitably distributed to organizations or groups or programs that the NCC Mission Board feels meets the characteristics set by the Saint Peter Legacy Mission Fund. Amounts higher than $5000 require the completion of a grant application.
That application can be downloaded HERE. Current applications must be received by April 1 of the current year. We rarely repeat grants to the same recipients the following year.
