The United Church of Christ, of which Northfield Community Church is a part, has begun a Climate Hope Cards Art Contest. From the UCC website:
“We find ourselves in the midst of ongoing climate and environmental justice crises. The future sometimes seems uncertain and even frightening. Yet as people of faith, we are called to heed prophetic voices and fight for a livable planet.”
The UCC Environmental Justice Ministries is calling all UCC children and teens under the age of 18 to draw, paint, or color their feelings about climate hope, environmental justice, or protecting the Earth. I have printed copies of the art worksheet in my office that artwork will need to be submitted on. I can also email the worksheet to you so you can print it or you can download it from UCC.org/ClimateHopeCards. The contest ends November 29, so artwork needs to be submitted by that date. Artwork can be brought to me at church and I will submit the artwork, or you can upload a photo or scan of the art yourself at the link above. I would like to display all the artwork that is submitted at NCC for a short time and then it will be returned. Winners will be announced during an online award ceremony on Saturday, January 7th. The winners of the Art Contest will have their art printed on thousands of Climate Hope Cards to be collected by UCC members around the country and ultimately delivered en masse to the White House.
This is a great opportunity for families to talk at home about environmental justice, and a fun and exciting way to share the thoughts, ideas, and feelings of caring for and protecting God’s good and beautiful creation by our children and teens.
